Leeds City Varieties
The City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds is the jewel in the crown of popular live entertainment. Other Halls from the same era still exist but the Verts is recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as being the longest continuous running music hall in Great Britain today.

This wonderfully intimate music hall is listed as a grade II* historic building of extreme rarity. It is also in a relatively untouched condition retaining many of its original features, for example, the roof construction has all its truss members still bearing the carpenters mark.

The City Varieties can trace its origins as a music hall back to 1865 when it was known as Thornton’s Fashionable Lounge. It is known to millions throughout the world as the home of BBC television’s Good Old Days, shown from 1953 until 1983, but still performing several weekends each and every year.

The City Varieties, today more than ever before, presents a varied programme of entertainment and is proudly known as Yorkshire’s Premier Variety Venue. We are preparing a bid for support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to refurbish this theatre and here we describe some of the ways in which you can help us to renovate this glorious theatre for the pleasure of generations to come.
